They tend to focus on cognitive culture: the shared intellectual values, norms, artifacts, and assumptions that set the overall tone for how employees think and behave at work.<\/p>\n<p>Though that\u2019s incredibly important, <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2016\/01\/manage-your-emotional-culture\">recent research \u00a0from\u00a0<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2016\/01\/manage-your-emotional-culture\">Barsade and O\u2019Neill<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>shows that it\u2019s only part of the story. The other critical part is emotional culture, which governs which feelings people have and express at work.<\/p>\n<p>The research has found that emotional culture influences employee satisfaction, burnout, teamwork, and even \u201chard\u201d measures such as financial performance and absenteeism.
